Interview with Tomás Hudson, interviewed by Andrea Lluch, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Mr. Hudson discusses his many decades working for Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in Argentina, the UK, the U.S., and Mexico. He relates the growth of ICI holdings in Argentina and Latin America and its relation to the Argentine state, especially under the military government. Mr. Hudson covers a wide range of issues related to business history in Argentina, including labor relations, marketing and advertising, local and international development of particular products, and the benefits and difficulties for multinational corporations and family-owned enterprises. He also talks about his experience at Harvard Business School and his post-retirement endeavors as a business consultant.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1932, Tomás Hudson's background is in industrial engineering. He has studied at St George's College (Quilmes), Cambridge University, IMD, Harvard Business School, and Stanford University. He developed his career at Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), where he worked for 36 years, serving as president of ICI México as well as ICI Argentina. ICI is now part of Akzo Nobel, the world's largest coatings manufacturer. Since his departure from ICI, he has served in non-executive positions in eight companies. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Order of the British Empire and the Argentine Espíritu de Granadero. He has been a trust beneficiary and board member of the Argentine-British Chamber of Commerce; the Hospital Británico; and St George's College, Quilmes. In addition, he is a full member of the Academia Sanmartiniana as well as active in a number of historical associations.
