Ambivalenzen sind überall: 1910 hat der Schweizer Psychiater Eugen Bleuler den Begriff erstmals geprägt, seitdem ist er von verschiedenen Diskursen aufgegriffen worden. In der Geschichtswissenschaft ist er ebenso etabliert wie in der Ethik, in der Kunst- und Medienwissenschaft oder in der Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft. Ambivalenz gilt nun nicht mehr als pathologisches Symptom, sondern hat eine gewisse Normalisierung erfahren. Damit ändert sich auch das Ziel der theoretischen Reflexion des Begriffs: von der Auflösung der Ambivalenz hin zum Umgang mit Ambivalenz. Die Beiträge des Sammelbands fokussieren unterschiedliche Aspekte der Ambivalenz im interdisziplinären Dialog.
