Die Sammlung Gunzenhauser verfügt mit ihrem bedeutenden Konvolut an Werken von Otto Dix über einen der umfangreichsten musealen Bestände des Künstlers weltweit. Zahlreiche Gemälde, Aquarelle, Zeichnungen und Druckgrafiken aus allen Schaffensphasen bieten einen repräsentativen Querschnitt durch seine künstlerische Entwicklung, von frühen expressionistischen Arbeiten über Hauptwerke der Neuen Sachlichkeit und die grossen symbolischen Landschaften aus der Zeit der Inneren Emigration bis hin zum malerischen und lithografischen Spätwerk. Der vorliegende Katalog erscheint anlässlich der Sonderausstellung '300 x DIX. Werke von 1912 bis 1969', in der das Dix-Konvolut erstmals nahezu vollständig im Museum Gunzenhauser gezeigt wird. In Ergänzung bestehender Publikationen zum Sammlungsbestand wird dabei eine Auswahl von 25 Hauptwerken von Otto Dix in ausführlichen Einzelbesprechungen vorgestellt, darunter das 'Selbstbildnis mit Wanderhut' (1912), 'Mädchen am Sonntag' (1921), 'Rothaarige Frau' (1931), 'Winterlandschaft mit Mond' (1935) und 'Der Heilige Christophorus VI' (1944).

Work Description
His grotesque and satirical paintings of the 1920s have long been entrenched in the public consciousness. But what were Otto Dix's (1891-1969) thoughts beyond the realms of art, and what were his opinions? In contrast to his fellow artists Paul Klee, Max Beckmann and George Grosz, the artist did not publish texts or author books. This makes access to his personal correspondence from the previously unpublished letters in his estate all the more valuable. A selection of more than one thousand documents provides a direct take on the social circumstances of his time.
