An edition of Die Kerze (2016)

Die Kerze

ein Motiv in der zeitgenössischen Kunst

Taking one of the main pieces in the Frieder Burda collection, Gerhard Richter's 'Kerze' from 1982, as an impulse, the motif of the candle, prominent through the history of art and culture, is pursued by means of paintings, sculptures and installations. The catalogue explores how artists in the 20th and 21st century - Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Nam June Paik, Jeff Koons and Eric Fischl for example - have picked up this motif, with its manifold image traditions, varied it and placed it within new interpretive contexts. Exhibition: Museum Frieder Burda, Badan-Baden, Germany (22.10.2016-29.01.2017).
