Edition Notes

The pseudonym "Alfred" was used by Sir James Bland Burges, but it seems unlikely that these letters were his, as they are decidedly in favor of the slave trade and Sir James was an abolitionist.--Goldsmiths' Lib. cat.

Reproduction of the original from the Goldsmiths' Library, University of London.
