Edition Notes
At head of prelim. leaf in each volume: Library of Congress.
Negative. Deposited in the Library of Congress by the M.L.A. Committee on the reproduction of manuscripts and rare printed books.
Each sheet of the facsimile represents two pages of the original (a verso and the opposite recto) beginning with the verso of the first leaf and the recto of the second leaf (the first written page of the manuscript).
Collation of original (as represented by facsimile) : 262 numbered leaves. 27 x 18 cm. Initials. In double columns.
The original is an early 13th century vellum manuscript in double columns. It is very imperfect, beginning with line 6871 and ending in the middle of a passage, the last page being practically illegible. It contains both the Gawain section and the Perceval adventures of Mons, which have not been found together in any other manuscript but which are included in the prose of 1530. The text is not well written. cf. The legend of Sir Perceval, by Jessie L. Weston.
Continuation by Wauchier de Denain?
On title page is a book-plate on which is a coat of arms with the following inscription: Ex bibliotheca Nicolai Joseph Foucault, comitis consistoriani.
Rare Book copy: Prelim. leaves dated 1925.
