Edition Notes

Printers' device on title page.

Head and tail pieces. Initials.

Greek text and two Latin translations (the Vulgate and Bèze's own translation) in parallel columns.

Bèze's fourth and last major edition. Reproduces the text of the third major edition, of 1588, with only two alterations. Differs in 49 passages from R. Stephanus' third edition, of 1550. No other Greek Testament agrees so closely with the text which underlies the English New Testament in King James' Bible.

Prefixed are Bèze's dedication to Queen Elizabeth of England, dated 1 Aug., 1598; a preface, dated 1 Aug., 1598; and Index rerum et verborum quae in annotationibus in Evangelistas et Acta Apostolorum continentur; Revelation is followed by Index posterior, and list of errata.

Another issue has no mention of place and printer, although it does have the printer's device (an olive tree, etc. with the motto: Vide benignitatem ac severitatem Dei).
