First printed in Paris, 1798 under title: La liberté des mers, ou, Le gouvernement anglais dévoilé.
According to Palau, the first Spanish translation of this work was printed in Madrid in 1835 under title: La libertad de los mares ó el gobierno inglés descubierto. The earliest edition traced at the Biblioteca de España is this Madrid, 1835 edition (Palau, 137769).
According to Silva, the first Spanish translation was printed in 1804 but does not give the title of the work, only the titles of the separate books (I. De poder maritimo em geral; 2. Do poder maritime insular; 3. no separate title page). Silva does not give the name of the author.
Colophon in volume 1 reads: Rio de Janeiro, 1833. Typ. de Miranda e Carneiro.
Colophon in volume 2 reads: (N. 81) Typ. de Miranda & Carneiro, rua do Espirito Santo N. 40.
Volume 1 contains a collective title page and an introdiction and books 1 and 2; volume 2 has a seaprate dated title page, identical to the first, and book 3.The table of contents in volume 2, pages [1-6] 3rd count, gives chapter headings for all three books.
Pagination: volume 1: LIV, 54, 92 pages; volume 2: 103, [9] pages.
Signatures: volume 1: 1-12⁸ (3₅, 7₇ versos blank) 13⁴; volume 2: 1-7⁸ (1₁, 7₇ versos blank).
