Work Description

This lovely little story is about a sixteen year old girl called Zora. She lives in Yugoslavia, post World War Two.
During the war a great part of the population refused to accept the German occupation of Yugoslavia. At first it looked as if all resistance fighters had the same aim - to obtain freedom for their Country. They became divided, some for Communism, others for the return of the King, Petar the Second. The civil war was long and bitter with the commuists the victor.
It was in these sad times that Zora lived, when people were afraid to speak their minds, even within their own families.
Zora meets Stevan, a Royalist on the run from the communist authorities. She helps him find a safe place, then helps him to escape. Yes they love each other.
A short story, only 156 pages and an easy read.
