Edition Notes
"In 1870, Christiana Edmunds, a Brighton spinster, developed an inappropriate attachment to Dr Charles Beard. After attempting to poison his wife, Emily, Christiana tried to divert the doctor's suspicions by injecting and distributing chocolate creams -- some with strychnine and some with arsenic -- resulting in the agonising death of a four year old boy. Tried at the Old Bailey, Christiana was found guilty and sentenced to death but reprieved on the grounds of insanity, spending the rest of her life in the Asylum for the Criminally Insane at Broadmoor"--Page [4] of cover.
