Edition Notes
Without the music.
The original music was composed by Warner Jepson [Obelin Conservatory] who had writtne but one song previously [for the SF Playhouse]. Kermit Sheets, SF Playhouse founder and director, asked Jepson to add music, much to the consternation of Helen Adam who wanted to use her own music. (Her music was too ephemeral and impossible.) There are about 60 tunes covering most of the verses in the script. Jepson finally in the '90s copied his penciled score, that he played from for the performances, to a computer to print out. He's since edited some of this music and added music for some verses that he thought should have some should it ever be produced again.
The original version of "San Francisoc's Burning" with Jepson's music ran six months from December '61 to June '62.
The later version done in NY with Al Carmines music ran for 6 performances on two weekends.
