Edition Notes

1543 (1st?) ed. has title: Commentarii de utroque retractu, & municipali & conventionali.
Includes (leaf 12a, etc.) Latin version of the legal texts commented upon, extracted from the coutume of Poitou. The texts (36 paragraphs of De retraict lignagier, 7 of De retraict conventionel) are typographically distinguished; each individual paragraph is immediately followed by commentary attached to lemmas given in French and Latin. The commentary is largely based on Roman law.
The second part, De retraict conuentionel = De retractu conventionali, begins with caption on leaf 273a.
Author died in 1558; his address to readers ("Andreas Tiraquellus ... lectori s[alutem]") on prelim. leaf [2], statedly concerning a 5th ed. by the Lyon publisher Guillaume Rouillé, may actually be adapted from his 4th edition, 1560 (cf. Baudrier IX, p.264).
Device on t.p.: in a mainly architectural frame, a bundle of arrows tied by scroll with the word Unitas; around the oval opening, motto: Concordia parva[e] res crescunt; cf. Zappella CCXXXc.
Signatures: a⁴(?) b-h⁸ i⁴ A-Xx⁸. Oddly assembled first gathering may be imperfect and/or may include cancels. N.B. register at end of the book calls for prelim. a-g⁸.
Printed in two columns.
Includes index.
