The 3 letters from the Farthest West (pseud.) are reprinted from 3 issues of "The Friend," Oct. 15, Nov. 16, and Dec. 1, 1846. The identity of the writer is unknown. The letter from Justice (Pseud.) is reprinted from the "Missouri republican," June 14, 1847. The authorship of this letter has been attributed to P. S. Cooke.
