Edition Notes
Though Lescarbot's name is nowhere mentioned, this is a translation into English from his Histoire de La Nouvelle France, (1st ed. 1609) by Pierre Erondelle, at the request of Richard Hakluyt. It covers only the part relating to the voyages and settlements of de Monts, Pontgravé and Poutrincourt, with the book on the Indians (Books IV and VI of the later eds. of Histoire de la Nouvelle France).
Apparently published between 1625 and 1640, during which time Andrew Hebb was publishing in London. cf. Arber, Transcript of the Stationers' reg., 1554-1640, v. 4, p. 30; v. 5, p. 241. STC (2nd ed.) gives the imprint date only as "after 1625".
This issue has the dedication and "To the reader ..." cancelled; the t.p. is also a cancel.
Signatures: pi1 2[par.]3,4 3[par.]⁴ A-2P⁴ 2Q².
