Kalahari is an historical adventure fiction novel based on the period just preceeding the change from White Minority rule to Black Majority rule in South Africa. A "third force" has entered the conflict for the dominance of Southern Africa. While blacks and whites jostle for position in the Republic of South Africa, other events are taking place in Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia that are orchestrated by the Soviet backed SIRUS group under the command of Col. Shukov.
Formerly with the KGB , Shulov has a long history of clandestinly disrupting democratic changes in small African nations. By fostering extreme violence between opposing factions, he promotes the eventual outcome of an election towards an extremist with a communist bent who will then become an ally of the Soviets. Pitted against him is the one man who has uncovered Sirus as the cause of the growing interracial violence in South Africa. "Zulu", Palmonas Mataama, is a CIA operative whose cover has been blown and who has fled to Namiba to escape Shukov's final solution for him. Now he is gathering his energy and forces to come in from the cold and face his nemesis. In line with him is Jules Noir, big game hunter, animal collector and an on-call man for the CIA in Botswana. His task will be to bring Zulu back across the Kalahri to South Africa where Shukov's plan can be exposed before it blows the country wide open. In a series of desperate moves, Zulu escapes an assasination plot in Namibia and then crosses into Botswana where he eludes the hulking child predator killer, Ullman who has been sent to take him out. While Ullman dies a fitting death in the Okavango swamps, Zulu races against time and the kidnappers of Jule's girlfriend to meet a deadline for death in South Africa. In the streets and back alleys of Johannesburg, Zulu rallies his splintered forces and makes a last ditch attempt to stop Shukov's dream of an anarchy in South Africa from taking place. As the two men stalk each other beneath the streets of Johannesburg, bands of armed black warriors and whites are already marching on the streets above towards a thunderous explosive clash. From the ghettos of Soweto to the Swamps of the Okavango, from the hut of a witch doctor to the web of trails that lead revolutionaries across Kalahari. From the excitement of an elephant hunt to a fast paced kidnapping, you'll love this page turner. Don't read the last chapter until you truely get to the end!
