Memior of an early medical pioneer Bertha Van Hoosen. Author was one of the first female graduates of medical school. Even rarer, Van Hoosen became a surgeon. Book follows her during her childhood on a farm near Rochester, Michigan, to her time at the University of Michigan medical school and beyond.
This is not a comic biography, but Van Hoosen has a light and no-nonsense touch. The earlier portions are somewhat reminiscent of I Remember Mama.
