Ford, H.L. Shakespeare 1700-1740,p. 10-11
Jaggard, W. Shakespeare bibliography,p. 497
One copy, old diced calf, gilt double-fillet borders, leather spine labels, marbled endpapers, sprinkled edges (defective spines); this set has v. 1 sig. A under "G" for "Goodness," v. 6 sig. A4 under "here" of "where," 2 cherubs in the headpiece for the third pt. of Henry VI in v. 4 (cf. ESTC T138296, T139294, T138297); ms. annotation, v. 1, signed J.W.C. 1841, describes this as a cropped large paper copy (in keeping, along with the features noted above, with ESTC T138296); armorial bookplate of John, Duke of Montague.
Provenance of one set: Sidney Thomson Fisher; contemporary panelled calf: central panel outlined in blind fillets and a decorative border within a fleuron-cornered panel bordered by a fillet-bordered outer section (faded, worn), red sprinkled tail and fore edges; imperfect copy: split joints, sides detached on vols. 2, 4-5; front flyleaf of v. 1 glued to front pastedown, obscuring the ms. annotations on flyleaves.
Sidney Fisher set has v. 1 sig. A under o in "Goodness", v. 6 sig. A4 under "wher" of "where", 2 cherubs in the headpiece for the third pt. of Henry VI in v. 4.
