it turns out when a room full of teenagers in the year 2015 read this novel everyone is like "the monster is my son now. i will be a parent better than victor frankenstein"
this is probably like the only one of "novels you had to read in high school" that i legit loved at the time and that can be attributed to being a 17 year old edgelord
i'm pretty positive that this is the anthology we used in my sci fi lit class senior year of high school. while most of these stories and sci-fi in general can be distilled into "we live in a society -joker" i loved "robbie" in particular just for being really wholesome
i didn't have to read this in high school but i could probably write an essay about how people in the age of irony-poisoning tend to cope with the horrific dread of being a soul without a functioning body with memes. my citations are weird edits of metallica one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJIIGpuuuYQ) and the use of that limbless anime girl image to express very minor inconveniences ("when the soda machine is out of ice" or something like that)
