520 $aWith the advent of 64-slice CT scanners and other hi-tech imaging devices that allow clinicians to diagnose CV disease noninvasively, cardiologists are clamoring for the ability--and the knowledge required--to image their patients and are moving into formerly radiology-restricted territory - similar to their move into the cath-lab several years ago. Currently, all cardiology trainees have several months learning the different noninvasive modalities, primarily echo. But, because CT allows the clinician to view the coronary arteries, and MR offers excellent 'viewing, some of the CV leaders are suggesting a 4th year fellowship - a cardiovascular imaging fellowship to provide the trainee with enough experience to perform various noninvasive tests, diagnose his or her patient AND manage his or her patient's care Because the general cardiologist now has a wide variety of imaging options, he or she needs both general and specific information: what to order, when; which modality offers the 'best bang for the patient's buck'; and anticipated patient outcomes. This textbook will cover the fundamental principles of cardiovascular imaging modalities and their application for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. The main focus of this book will be the comprehensive diagnosis of clinical conditions/disease entities through the most effective cardiovascular imaging test or combination. This textbook will address the clinical utility and relative value of each test to address specific clinical questions, based on evidence and expert opinion.
