520 8 $aBased on the proceedings of an international conference, this volume contains contributions by a number of scholars regarding sculpture in Roman Greece, that is from the late Hellenistic period to late antiquity (2nd century B.C. - 5th century A.D.). Numerous new finds are presented, studied alongside earlier ones, suggesting that sculpture workshops in Greece had a significant production during that period. Artistic tradition remains alive in Greece during those years and even survives the influx of new iconographic motifs and artistic trends imported from the West, notably Rome. An interesting aspect of this issue is the function of sculptures either within the architectural context where they were placed, for example in theatre edifices, or within the context of religious sites or cemeteries. Finally, a number of papers present significant finds of recent years from excavations outside Greece.
