500 $aAnne Warren Weston reviews the affairs of the past week. Mrs. Sewall spoke very highly of "The Slave." ["The Slave" referred to is "The Slave, or Memoirs of Archy Moore," by Richard Hildreth, first published anonymously in 1836. See note to vol. 8, no.8.] She helped with the petitions. The number of them sent may be seen in the Liberator. She mentions various callers, including one who is to take drawing lessons of Caroline Weston and comments on Angelina and Melania Ammidon. Having written to "dear George Thompson," the writer tells of the gift of a spoon, wrought by Henrietta Sargent and purchased at the Fair by some ladies for Mrs. George [Thompson]. Hervey Weston arrived a few days before his vacation. Caroline received a muff as a New Year present from "her affectionate pupils." Dr. [William Ellery] Channing's letter in the Liberator is thought by abolitionists as "too mean and thin to speak of." The Chapmans and Caroline heard [George S.] Hillard deliver the first of a course of lectures to the colored people. Anne's health requires great care. Henry Egbert Benson is expected to live only a few days.
