Johnson states that he is loathe to leave Philadelphia, despite the consent of the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society's Executive Board. Johnson states that he must once again speak with Sydney Howard Gay prior to coming to a decision, and confides to Garrison that his decision would be easier made were the American Anti-Slavery Society's Executive Board would only come to a firm and final decision concerning the future of the "National Anti-Slavery Standard".
