500 $aAnne Warren Weston gets the workers for the Anti-Slavery Fair organized. Tells about a letter from Hervey Weston in which he refers to the anti-abolition riots at Yale. Says the faculty is much alarmed. "Mrs. [Lydia Maria] Child has obtained considerable money for the Samaritan Asylum." There is at this point much said about letters received, calls made, contributions, etc. "...Margaret Fuller called. She was more magnificent than usual & held forth at a great rate, regretted the probable fact that in her forthcoming book Miss Martineau might assume a partisan attitude." Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman received an account of a debate between Robert J. Breckenridge and George Thompson. Richard Hildreth called. She reports on the donations to the Anti-Slavery Fair. "We expect E. Sampson tomorrow." "I gave him [Richard Heldreth] a pen wiper like yours which he received civilly & pretty soon went out & returned with 2 books entitled 'The Slave, or Memoirs of Archy Moore' printed by Eastburn but not published." Wendell Phillips visited the Fair. The writer read Hildreth's book and liked it. She gives some family news. Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman is expecting another child.
