520 $aNursing Models for Practice is an outstanding textbook with an international reputation, which has retained its popularity with students for more than a decade. The second edition continues to offer an excellent introduction to the background theory and application of models in nursing practice. In a world where nurses are being asked to be more and more explicit about the contribution they make to health care, the evidence on which they base their practice, the actions they take, and the outcomes they are working towards with patients all have to be justified. The use of well developed theoretical models is therefore becoming even more important. Critically, they help not only to plan care but also to explain to others exactly what is it that they are aiming to achieve. The book retains all its poplar characteristics. Key features include: major updating and appropriate text expansion; easily accessible and reader friendly style; complex ideas explained clearly, avoiding jargon; reference to external changes which are influencing current health care services; summaries of three additional models: those of Watson, Parse, and Paterson and Zderad, all of whom have drawn on a more interpretive school of thought and offer an alternative approach. The book has not been changed for the sake of change; where ideas have stood the test of time they have required only slight modifications.
