520 $aThis publication accompanies the exhibition "Paweł Althamer: the neighbors," his first major survey exhibition in the US, and includes new writings and extensive photographic documentation providing insight into his groundbreaking sculptures, performances, and participatory installations. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Althamer became known for his surreal sculptural portraits of himself, family, and strangers encountered on his travels. Additionally, the artist has initiated a number of collaborative projects involving local communities. Together, his works highlight the complex social, political, and psychological systems in which he lives and operates.
