500 $aFirst edition printed in Boston, 1677 under title: A narrative of the troubles with the Indians in New-England, from the first planting thereof in the year 1607, to this present year 1677. Although differing but slightly from the first, this second edition (the only one printed in England) is the more highly prized as having received the author's last corrections.
500 $aAn abridged edition, from which several later editions were copied, was published at Boston in 1775.
500 $aThere are two states of the imprimatur leaf, page [2], 1st count: in the first there a row of woodcut type ornaments above the text and a solid rule between the that and the license by Roger L'Estrange; in the other there is a row of type ornaments above the text and another row of type ornaments between that at the license by Roger L'Estrange.
500 $aThe woodcut map has title: A map of New-England, being the first that ever was here cut, and done by the best pattern that could be had, which being in some plaes defective, it made the other less exact: yet doth ot sufficiently shew the scituation f the countrey, and conveniently well the distance of places. This edition has what is considered the correct map for this edition, the mound immediately beneath the title being designated as "The Wine Hills," the Boston edition having the proper designation "The White Hills". It may have been made by John Foster, a Boston printmaker and bookseller.
