505 0 $aIntroduction -- The father of Jews and Gentiles alike : Abraham in the Letters of Paul -- Jewish traditions revised : Abraham in Matthew, Hebrews, and James -- The father of the outcast : Abraham in Luke-Acts -- The true children of Abraham : Abraham in the Gospel of John -- Spiritualizing and gnosticizing Abraham in the second century -- The father of Christians alone : Abraham in Justin Martyr's Dialogue with Trypho -- From Gentile inclusion to Jewish exclusion.
520 $aAnalyzes all the passages in early Christian writings from Paul to Justin Martyr which deal with the recipients of God's promise - Jews vs. Christians - in terms of descent from Abraham. Whereas Paul interprets the promise as including Gentile Christians along with Jews, the Gospel of John asserts that Jews are only (genetic) "descendants" of Abraham and actually children of the devil; Christians are Abraham's true (spiritual) "children." Justin Martyr, in his "Dialogue with Trypho, " completes the process by proclaiming the disinheritance of Jews both from the land and from God's salvation in favor of Christians.$c(From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism).
