500 $aGerman unity and the process of European integration since 1990 are among the persistently lively and controversial topics in public, science and art. The project Zerreissproben presents contrasting points of view so far encountered from East and West Germans. In the center of the project are two questions: (1) What the expectations were and are of unity and integration addressed by the people of East and West. (2) How to change spatial, cultural and social patterns of perception, if divisive, is overcome by integration, but also arise when a new unit dislocates and fractures. To explore these questions, the Leipzig group has invited artists from Germany and Europe to Leipzig to report in an exhibition of their positions.
