520 8 $aCatalogue of the figurative, abstract or public-space sculptures that Max Leiva (b. Guatemala 1966) has created between 1998 and 2012, from the smallest ones to his 18 meter obelisk, part of the Monumento a la Cooperación, Plaza de la República, Guatemala City. The artist considers the book a graphic document of his creative process, and includes sketches and color reproductions of a selection of 55 works produced in the last 15 years. Leiva was a disciple of Dagoberto Vásquez, one of Guatemala's most recognized sculptors. Nöel Coret, president of the Salon d'Autome (Paris - Grand Palais des Champs Elysée) describes Leiva's elegant, aerodynamic and pointed sculptures in his introduction "His artistic path materializes in the figurative or the abstract, claiming not only his roots to the grand Maya culture of Central America, which nourish him, but also his thirst for the nectar of life taken from the fountain of the world's songs."--P. 10.
