520 8 $aConsidered one of the most important plastic artists of Brazil, Carlos Bracher lives in Ouro Preto, since the 1960's. The architecture and magic of this mining town has always been his main theme and inspiration. For decades, the artist has promoted the beauty and culture of the city through his art. The book is not only made up of a series of watercolors of Ouro Preto especially produced to illustrate it; the book features the vision of someone who knows the city and wants to promote it. Following the historical context of Ouro Preto from its foundation in June 24, 1698, Carlos Bracher highlights its "Mineiro Baroque" personality and the notable art expressions of that period, particularly the legacy of Portuguese Manuel Francisco Lisboa (1695-1767) and of his son Antonio Francisco Lisboa (1730? -1737?/1814), better known as Aleijadinho. The artist author rediscovers the "Mineira Disloyalty" and its main personages: Tiradentes, Cláudio Manuel, Thomas Gonzaga, Marlia de Dirceu, narrates the "discovery" of Ouro Preto by the modernists, a period called "Renascence", to the present day main characters: Dona Olímpia, Bené da Flauta. Leva-nos, the parks, museums and its baroque churches.
