The book-catalogue examines what were the motivations that encouraged Eduardo Schiaffino, first director of the institution (between 1895 and 1910), to form a collection of sculptures of mostly European artists to promote local sculpture practice. Works by Lucio Correa Morales, Mateo Alonso, Francisco Cafferata, Víctor de Pol, Arturo Dresco, Pedro Zonza Briano, Antonio Tantardini, Jules Lagae, Auguste Rodin and Émile Bourdelle amongst other 19th and early 20th century famous foreign and Argentine artists are part of the collection.
