500 $aSamuel Wood & Sons was located at 261 Pearl St., New York, between 1817 and 1836. Samuel S. Wood & Co. was located at 212 Market St., Baltimore, between 1814 and at least 1824; a Baltimore directory for 1825 has not been located. Samuel S. Wood had relocated to New York by 1826. Pomeroy notes that Polar scenes was first published in London by J. Harris in 1821. According to Pomeroy, text of the edition in hand is nearly identical to Campe's Surprising adventures of four Russian sailors at the Island of Spitzbergen, published by Samuel Wood & Sons and Samuel S. Wood & Co. in 1822.
