500 $aFirst edition of this treatise on the education of princes. Composed by the Byzantine exegete, Theophylactus, for his pupil, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, son of Emperor Michael VII. This edition served a double purpose, since the editor-translator, the Jesuit scholar Pierre Poussines, dedicates it to the young French monarch, Louis XIV, who was 13 at the time.
