520 $aThe book comprises works from different eras, from the early years of the 20 century, when Lagar Segall traveled between his hometown of Vilna, in Lithuania at the time part of the Russian Empire and the German cities of Berlin and Dresden, where he attended the academies and was part of the German Expressionism movement that revolutionized European art. The work shown in the book extend into the 1950œs, shortly before his death in Sao Paulo in 1957, passing through the four-year period in which he lived in Paris from 1928 to 1932. This publication brings a historical collection from the artistœs year of birth. It is the result of Vera dœHortaœs research through Lasar Segallœs archives, which she dedicated to for 30 years. Upon completing her research, the historian said the following: It is well known that the artist had a knack for fiction, since he grew up listening to the Hasidœs wonderful narratives. He was also known to enrich the Segall personaʺ with picturesque details and everyday episodes of which he would have been the protagonist, all for the sake of his improvised imagination. It is hard to say what made him deduct two years from his life, but now we know he was born in 1889, not in 1891, as he always made a case of repeating so much that the fiction became reality.ʺʺ--Page 121.
