520 $aExhibition of José Luis Sánchez Rull (México City, 1964). "This retrospective is a revision of works from 8 series made since 2001. "Works include opposing references, which include characters from the film industry and at the same time cartoons from Hanna-Barbera, Beavis and Butthead and Mickey Mouse, to the Ice King from Adventure Time. In addition, the influence of certain comic artists from the magazine Mad as Basil Wolverton, or from the California subculture of the late 1970's like Robert Crumb and Gary Panther; while other paintings exhibit erotic quotes from the letters between Nahui Ollin and James Joyce. Also in addition to these works between the pornographic and erotic, literary references from Faulkner, Hemingway, Burroughs and Bukowski along with damned poems and elaborated phrases made by the artist whose cruel honesty borderlines between obscenity and perversion [...] While the paintings of these series are inspired 19th century Japanese graphic art of the Ukiyo-e of Taiso Yoshitoshi, the drawing take the erotic traction of the Kamasutra."
