520 $aThe 'Sabbahtische Lust' was published in 1651 shortly after the 'Neuen Himmlischen Liedern' by J. and H. Stern in Lüneburg. The collection contains extensive prefaces, a considerable number of texts of honor, and 58 songs on the Sunday Gospels of the entire church year. Insofar as Rist professedly pursued the goal of perceiving his ministry as a spiritual writer in the medium of lyric poetry, it was logical that he remained true to this principle with regard to the Gospel pericopes of the liturgical year. The 'Sabbahtische Seelenlust' represents an outstanding milestone in the early modern genre history of pericopic poetry, in which, before Rist, authors such as Johann Heermann, Andreas Gryphius and some authors from the circle of the Pegnitz Flower Society, such as Philipp Georg Harsdörffer, had a stylistic effect. In addition, the 'Sabbahtische Seelenlust' is Rist's first collaboration with the renowned Hamburg cathedral cantor and music director at the main and subsidiary churches of Thomas Selle, which later continued as part of the development of the Neuen Festspiele (1655).
