520 $aOffers a chronology of the United States occupation of Haiti from 1915 to 1934. The occupation began on July 28, 1915, when 330 U.S. Marines landed at Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on the authority of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. The July intervention took place following the murder of dictatorial President Vilbrun Guillaume Sam by insurgents angered by the political executions of members of the elite opposition. The occupation ended on August 1, 1934, under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
