520 $aBiography. Gregorio Luperón (1839-1897), he was a Dominican military leader and statesman. The main military leader in the restoration of the Republic after the Spanish annexation in 1863 and later President of the Dominican Republic from 1879 to 1880. This study analyzes his role as an ardent opponent to colonial rule and his actions and support in solidarity with sister islands of Haiti, Cuba and Puerto Rico.
