500 $aA forgery of this edition is known to exist, probably published between 1838 and 1860, possibly by R. Bentley. It is a page-for-page facsimile except the introductory letter in the forgery ends on p. x, while in the real fifth edition it ends on p. ix, with p. x being blank. Other points which identify the forgery: pages 19 and 126 are misnumbered 29 and 116 (correct in the original), first two leaves of each gathering signed (first four in the original), the modern letter "s" is used throughout (old style tall "s" used in the original), and the final leaf is blank, with no advertisements as in the original.
