520 $aThis book of pericopes from a chronicle of twenty-three years represents only about a third of the whole. It is incumbent on me, therefore, to explain my principles of selection. But readableness-comparative readableness, anyway is the only one. It is the reason that the fifties are so thinly represented, for my actual notes covering the first decade of my association with Stravinsky are more voluminous than those dealing with the second decade, but they are in no sense written-up, and are personal in a way that this book is not. They can be used only in the different medium of the biography.
