500 $aThe Review is a periodical written and published in 9 v. by Daniel Defoe. Vol. 1 consists of 102 no., no. 1-7 having title "A Weekly review of the affairs of France"; with no. 8 (Apr. 1, 1704) the title was changed to "A Review of the affairs of France," and numbers were issued thenceforward each Tuesday and Saturday. The t.-p. for the volume reads: A Review of the affairs of France: and of all Europe, as influenced by that nation ... Vol. 1 includes supplements as follows: A Supplementary journal, to the Advice (called in no. 2-5, A Supplement to the Advice) from the Scandal club (no. [1]-5; Sept. 1704-Jan. 1705); and "An appendix to the Review," dated 1705 ([16] p.)
500 $aVol. 2 continues the title "A Review of the affairs of France" on t.-p. and individual numbers. Beginning with no. 8 (Mar. 22, 1705) a Thursday issue was added, and publication was continued with 3 no. a week. Vol. 2 includes a semiweekly supplement, entitled :The Little review; or, An inquisition of scandal" (no. 1-23; June 6-Aug. 21, 1705)
500 $aThe t.-p. and numbers of v. 3 have title "A Review of the state of the English nation," which title was continued through v. 4, no. 11; beginning with v. 4, no. 12 (Mar. 8, 1707) the title became "A Review of the state of the British nation," this title continuing on title-pages and numbers through -- v.5.:1708-9, pt. 1: March-August 1708, pt.: September 1708-March 1709. -- v.8.
500 $aDefoe began an Edinburgh edition of the Review with v. 6. This was largely a reprint of the London edition, and was continued through 35 no. of v. 7. Facsimile book 16 includes the t.-p. of v. 6 of the Edinburgh edition, and the following numbers: no. 1-4, 75, 87, 110, 127-129, 131, 147, extending from Mar. 31, 1709 to Mar. 14, 1710. Facsimile book 18 includes one Edinburgh number (v. 7, no. 35) dated June 20, 1710.
500 $aVol. 8 closes with no. 211, dated July 29, 1712. The publication was, however, continued under a new title "Review," vol. I (sometimes counted as vol. IX) This final volume (spoken of in the introduction as a "new part") consists of 106 no. issued from Aug. 2, 1712 to June 11, 1713. The facsimile reproduction lacks no. 81.
