Large paper impression issued in 2 bound volumes. Lacks the two page preface by Shaw, dated 1840, found in the large and small paper parts issues. Printed from the same setting of type as the large paper issue in parts. Bound in the order specified in the table of contents, which is chronological by date of the items depicted, and differs completely from the order as issued in the parts.
Most plates are hand-coloured aquatints; also includes six colour-printed wood engraved plates as well as colour-printed cuts and initials throughout the text. Printed by Charles Whittingham.
MASS copy 1: With the bookplate of Ruari McLean. Bound in maroon fine ribbed-grain cloth blocked in blind, with title blocked in gold on spine.
MASS copy 2: Presentation inscription dated June 1906. Large paper impression trimmed to small paper size (29 cm.). With cover illustration to parts signed by Mary Byfield bound into vol. 2. With the bookplate of Ruari McLean. Bound in half red morocco and marbled-paper covered boards. Binder's stamp: Arthur S. Colley. Leather bookseller's label: Hugh Rees Ltd. ... London.
