Edition Notes
Although usually considered the work of George Gascoigne, and later reprinted with considerable changes in his "Posies," 1575, and his "Whole woorkes," 1587, Ward believes Gascoigne to be merely one of several authors whose work included here. In addition, Ward also supposes "G.T.", the original editor, to be the Earl of Oxford, and "F.I.", Sir Christopher Hatton. Cf.Introduction.
From half title page verso: "Of this edition, printed in England at the Shakespeare Head Press on Kentish all-rag paper, 400 numbered copies have been issued. In addition, 50 copies have been printed on Batchelor's Kelmscott paper numbered 1 to 50 ".
Reprint of ed. originally published: London: Imprinted for Richarde Smith [1573], ommitting the two plays "Supposes" and "Jocasta", and most of the prose in "The adventures of Master F.I.". Cf. p.viii-ix, [190].
Introduction by B.M. Ward.
Includes Bibliographical note [p. 194].
