Abstract: Health benefits of vitamin C are discussed for the general public in view of selected research findings; controlled studies suggest its contribution to the prevention and correction of infective, degenerative, and stress diseases. Such studies also have indicated the vitamin's ability to enhance resistance against pollutants, and its supportive role in producing white blood cells and interferon. Specifically addressed are the suggested roles of vitamin C relative to combating and preventing the common cold, severe infections, degenerative diseases, and other serious conditions. General benefits of vitamin C intake (enhancing health and immunity) also are discussed. (wz)
