"Antonio Manuel" is a catalog of works by Brazilian artist Antonio Manuel, following an exhibition of his work Occupations/Discoveries in 2005 at Pharos Centre for Contemporary Art, Nicosia, Cyprus. Antonio Manuel lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. . Partly as a consequence of the socio-political environment, partly as a creative strategy, he has worked in the interstices of cultural dissemination appropriating imagery and sometimes the actual circuits of circulation of mass communication. Sensationalist newspaper headlines, censorship, the displacement of marginalized populations, crime and police brutality have featured in Antonio Manuel's oeuvre, tracing the upheavals of Brazilian history over the last forty years.

Work Description
Solo exhibition on the actuality of Antonio Manuel's artistic creations, focusing on his most recent and never seen in public works. Born in 1947, in Hazelnuts de Caminha, Portugal, the artist came five years later to Rio, where in the 1960's he was known for his production of strong political tone, and experimentalism that marks his work still today. The exhibit, curated by Luiz Camillo Osorio, include the installations "Fantasma" (1994/2013), from the collection of the MAM, "Frutos do Espaço" (1980/2013), "Ocupaçoes/ Descobrimentos" (1998/ 2013) and "Sucesso de Fatos" (2003/ 2013). His in-site installations "until the image disappears", use water. The artist emphasizes that this collection "is a set that was never been presented and that communicates, a dialogue with the other. A common feature is that all installations are participatory."
