Date taken from dated "Introduction": p. [1]-6.

Includes preliminary wood-engraved portrait plate entitled "H. R. H. Prince Albert, Founder of International Exhibitions.". Plate is unsigned.

Most wood-engraved plates are unsigned. One is signed "FW". All are with title captions.

Most wood-engraved illustrations within the text are unsigned. A few are signed "Langton Sc." [i.e. Robert Fulshaw Langton?] or "Hare" [i.e. Thomas Matthew Hare?].

Includes wood-engraved decorative head-pieces, tail-pieces and initials.

MASS copy: Bound in red-brown bubble-grain cloth blocked in gold, black and blind. Upper cover blocked in gold and black with an illustration of flags and the Bible. Boards with bevelled edges. With light brown painted endpapers. With binder's ticket: "The Selwood Printing & BG Works Frome & London.". With ownership inscription dated 1913: "Ellis [Rodbry?] P. [Offel?]".
