La faz de España es un libro de viajes en el que tienen cabida todo tipo de comentarios de Gerald Brenan, desde las anécdotas de tipo personal hasta consideraciones de carácter político y económico, sin olvidar sus numerosas apreciaciones del patrimonio artístico español. El viaje del escrito se extiende por tierras de Andalucía, Extremadura y La Mancha, iniciando y finalizando su recorrido en Madrid. Brenan quiere descubrir la realidad española al resto de Europa. Mostrando en todo momento un profundo amor por España, nos ofrece una visión comprensiva del país en los años cincuenta, del lento cambio de costumbres que comenzaba a producirse, así como del carácter español, por el que este autor sintió siempre una gran simpatía.
