"Passionately in love with Lucien de Sardou, a young French aristocrat, Fleur Garton flees the emotional entanglements of her home life in England to live with him the the beatuiful family Chateau, but their happiness together is shortlived. War breaks out and within two weeks Lucien is dead - one of the first to be killed. Alone in the Chateau with Lucien's mother, the Countess, Fleur leads a solitary life until, in mortal danger from the occupying Germans, she is forced to embark on a hazardous journey across France, that leads from old dreams to new joy and happiness."--Publisher description.

Work Description

Love's Dark Secret

Fleur Garton was lovely. Yet it seemed she was born under a tragically unlucky star. She was a perpetual refugee from the ravages of war. And she found herself an unwitting victim of a series of unhappy love affairs. Her destiny appeared a grim, foregone conclusion.

Finally she joined the household staff of Sir Norman Mitcham, one of the most important men in all England, yet a man of enigmatic and forbidding habits. Slowly, surely, her love for him grew. Could this remote yet fatally attractive man return her love? Would Fleur be rescued at last from a life of failure and unhappiness?
