"The Denali Highway, completed in 1957, connects the communities of Cantwell and Paxson in east-central Alaska. The western half of the road partly follows the alignment of an early 1900s trail to a gold depost at Valdez Creek. Until completion of the Parks Highway in 1972, the Denali Highway provided the only road access to Denali National Park."
