The study was conducted jointly by U.S. Bureau of Home Economics and Bureau of Labor Statistics, in cooperation with the National Resources Planning Board and the Central Statistical Board; funds for the project were provided by the Work Projects Administration. cf. Foreword of v. 1.

A comparable series on a survey of city families, prepared by the Bureau of Labor Statistics is issued as numbers of its Bulletin.
